Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities concluded he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under house arrest.

The one-time leader was found guilty of plotting a military coup in the ninth month and handed more than over two decades in incarceration, but he was staying under confinement pending court reviews.

Top Judicial Official Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the elderly politician was a precautionary step after recent developments emerged.

This encompassed seeking to disable his ankle monitor and a summons to a public vigil that could enable a chance to flee".

Court Filing Details Escape Risks

In a filing authorising the arrest, the judge said data from the unit overseeing the former president's confinement suggested the ex-president's "intention to break the electronic ankle bracelet to secure accomplishment in his flight.

This, it said, would be assisted by the confusion caused by the demonstration called by his son.

His son, Flávio Bolsonaro, who holds office as a congressional representative, called for a meeting of his supporters near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday evening.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on digital networks on the previous day: Will you battle for your nation, or observe everything from your phone there on your sofa? I call on you to struggle with us."

He said the gathering would be so backers could offer prayers for his well-being and for the restoration of democratic rule in our country."

Foreign Shelter Risks

Part of the judge's ruling was the possibility of Bolsonaro's transfer to foreign missions near the residence, considering that the investigations revealed a history of organizing to seek refuge through a diplomatic representation", a declaration said.

The judicial paperwork underscores that the American diplomatic mission in the national capital, the capital city, is situated around 13km from his dwelling.

Worldwide Consequences

The former president's legal troubles have generated frustration from fellow right-wing populist United States President Trump, prompting him to enact a fifty percent tax on Brazilian product imports.

The former president is being kept in a national police facility in Brasilia and will experience a custody hearing on Sunday.

Latest Court Petitions

It was only on last Friday that the former president's lawyers asked the High Court to permit him to serve his whole jail sentence under domestic detention, with digital surveillance.

They also asked that the former president be allowed to depart his residence for medical care, saying he required frequent medical attention for pulmonary infections and other illnesses.

Details of Guilty Verdict

The former president was convicted of heading a scheme aimed at retaining his authority after he was defeated in the presidential race to his political opponent, President Lula.

High Court judges said that he knew of a scheme which involved plans to kill Lula and his vice-presidential running mate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to arrest and execute the presiding judge - the top judicial official who has been presiding over Bolsonaro's trial.

The scheme was thwarted because it couldn't obtain the endorsement of the armed forces officials. Lula was took office without incident on 1 January 2023.

But a following week, on January 8th, numerous Bolsonaro supporters stormed and vandalised government buildings in the national capital, the capital city.

The security forces stepped in and around fifteen hundred individuals were arrested.

The magistrates found that the demonstrators had been provoked by Bolsonaro whose scheme, they said, was for the Brazilian military to intervene, bring back stability and bring him back to power.

At the time, his attorneys called the decades-long sentence extremely harsh.

He was also prohibited from seeking elected position until twenty-sixty - eight years later after the completion of his term.

The former president called the legal proceedings a political persecution and said it was intended to stop him competing in the 2026 national vote.
